UNC Campus Security Initiative
In August 2014, UNC President Tom Ross launched an initiative to study security and student safety at the University's 17 constituent institutions. The result was a report that included high-priority recommendations for new initiatives, staffing and security measures for UNC campuses. The Board's Committee on Budget and Finance discussed a proposed Campus Security Fee to provide a portion of funding needed to implement the report's core recommendations, which include compensating campus police officers consistent with market rates. The board approved a Campus Security Fee in the amount of $30.
